Partial Knee Resurfacing

Dr. Cheung is the region's most experienced orthopedic surgeon in performing partial knee replacement using an interactive robotic arm. His unique training and experience is key to the success of Cabell Huntington Hospital's award-winning joint replacement program.

Felix Cheung, MD, specializes in partial knee replacement using the MAKOplasty orthopedic robotic surgical system.

Cabell Huntington Hospital is proud to be the only hospital within a 100-mile radius offering MAKOplasty® Partial Knee Resurfacing, an innovative treatment option for adults living with early to midstage osteoarthritis in either the medial (inner), patellofemoral (top), or both compartments of the knee.

Unlike total knee replacement, MAKOplasty® is a resurfacing of the joint with much less bone being removed. Soft tissues and ligaments remain untouched, which allows for an overall less invasive procedure. An implant is then secured in the joint to allow the knee to move smoothly again. MAKOplasty® Partial Knee Resurfacing can:

  • Offer the best implant positioning to result in a more natural feeling knee following surgery
  • Result in a more rapid recovery and shorter hospital stay than traditional knee replacement surgery
  • Be performed on an outpatient basis
  • Promote a rapid relief from pain and return to daily activities

As a knee arthroplasty procedure, MAKOplasty® is typically covered by most Medicare-approved and private health insurers.

About Dr. Cheung

Dr. Felix Cheung is the region's only orthopedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in musculoskeletal oncology. He completed his musculoskeletal oncology fellowship at Harvard Medical School and his orthopedic residency at West Virginia University. Dr. Cheung is not just the only orthopedic oncologist within a 120-mile radius of Huntington, but the region's most experienced orthopedic surgeon in performing MAKOplasty — or partial knee replacement — using an interactive robotic arm. His unique training and experience are key to the success of Cabell Huntington Hospital's award-winning joint replacement program [LINK].
